Project overview
What is the 'CREATE ALERTS' feature?
Users can receive real-time notifications regarding particular keywords, brands, competitors, or industry themes by creating an alert. This feature assists businesses in tracking competitors, keeping up with industry trends, engaging with customers, measuring campaign performance, managing crises, tracking noteworthy mentions, and producing analytical reports. Users can personalize alerts to only include pertinent information, keeping them informed and in control of their media strategy.
My role & responsibilities
As the Senior UX Designer on this project, I led the research and product development processes. I collaborated closely with the Product Manager, a junior UX designer, and the development team to ensure a cohesive and user-centric approach.
Project overview
Problem Statement
These alerts are crucial for the customers to be real time notified, informed and stay pro-active in their media strategies.
This feature was outdated and needed new UX and fit in the new design system.
The Goal
The most easy to use alert setting for our users. With also focus on the admin to adjust or pause an alert.
RESEARCH
From the interviews with our Brand Monitor users we knew this function was very important to them. From interview and prototype sessions we got feedback to make this very intuitive.
CHALLENGES
There is 2 versions of this alert setting. 1 is set from the report itself and the other from the admin. Slightly different usage because of backend.
Also the recipients selection part still needs a better solution in the future.
DESIGN
It took several prototyping sessions with users to get to this design. We did sessions with multiple features to get insights.
Details
- Duration: 3 weeks
- Tools: Sketching, Mural, Adobe XD.
The more easy it is to set an alert, the more time it saves.
Design Challenge
Design Proces
Because there was an high pressure timeline for the whole project, sometimes we needed to design very quickly. not ideal but when very organized it was possible. The double diamond proces is still very useful to focus on when you have to deliver fast.
The human centred design process starts with a good understanding of people and the needs that the design is intended to meet. We were using the Double Diamond process, originally released by the British Design Council. I like this framework for its structure, clarity and dynamics. The two diamonds represent a process of exploring an issue more widely or deeply (convergent thinking) and then taking focused action (convergent thinking).
Empathizing with users
User Interviews
This is one feature of many for this large scale project for the new Media Monitoring Product. We organized a group of users to do interviews with and did this for the whole product but also divided this in sections for the many features involved. We got some feedback from users and customers from the account managers this helped to dive in further to identify challenges users encountered, and noted the obstacles they faced. Subsequently we collected valuable feedback that enabled us to categorize and prioritize the identified user problems.
User research: pain points
The alert saves me a lot of time. I don’t have to do it myself anymore.
Alerts are crucial for my work. Makes the job much easier.
